Question: “Solid wood frame, eco-friendly frame, veneer solid wood frame — what are the differences in materials?”

Answer: “The difference between a solid wood frame and an eco-friendly frame lies in the materials inside. As the name suggests, a solid wood frame is made from original timber. But what is an eco-friendly frame? It is actually a door frame made of plywood. As for a veneer solid wood frame, it was created to make up for the limited colour choices of ordinary solid wood door frames — a wood veneer selected by the customer is applied onto a door frame made of solid wood.”


Question: “What is the difference between the infill of a solid wood door and a solid-core door?”

Answer: “Many customers misunderstand solid wood doors and solid-core doors. This may be because there are many different product names on the market that can be confusing. A solid wood door is made by cutting and assembling whole pieces of timber, without adding other materials such as plywood or fibreboard. A solid-core door mainly uses a wooden frame as its structure, and the inside is then densely filled with wooden strips or plywood strips.”


Question: “Do both main doors and bedroom doors need to use solid wood?”

Answer: “For main doors, a solid-core door is generally more than sufficient, while hollow-core doors are more commonly used for bedroom doors. Solid wood doors have been used less in recent times for three reasons: price, styles, and maintenance. Solid wood doors use natural timber and involve more processes, resulting in a higher price. In terms of styles, the structure of a solid wood door limits the designs that can be made. Since solid wood doors are made from natural timber, the wood may undergo certain changes as it adapts to the environment and weather, which may cause the solid wood door to deform. In terms of maintenance, a wooden door specialist has to visit the flat to carry out repairs.”


Question: “What are the differences in sound insulation performance among different wooden doors?”

Answer: “In general, sound insulation performance ranks as follows: glass door < hollow-core door < solid-core door = solid wood door < fire-rated door. If customers require a genuinely certified acoustic door, they should consult a company that specialises in making acoustic doors.”
