A washing machine is one of the essential appliances in every home. Using a washing machine to do laundry not only saves a lot of time, but also helps ensure clothes are thoroughly cleaned and sanitised. However, faults may sometimes occur when using a washing machine, and most are caused by improper operation. Let’s take a look at some common washing machine problems below!
1. Why do mould spots appear on the door gasket?
After using the washing machine, try to leave the door open to let the damp air dry out. This helps keep the washing machine dry and fresh. In addition, leaving clothes inside the washing machine increases moisture and can cause odours and mould.
2. Why do clothes smell after being washed in the washing machine?
This may happen when washing clothes in very humid weather, or when clothes are forced to dry in a place without air circulation. During washing, you can try using hot water (but be sure to follow the washing instructions on the garment care label). This can reduce mould growth and clean the washing drum. Alternatively, every two to three months, you can use WPro AFR301 deodorising tablets to remove musty odours. Any programme can be used with a water temperature of 60 degrees.
3. Why can some washing machine models not use liquid detergent with the “Delay Start” programme?
Because if liquid detergent is used, the liquid may flow into the machine too early and may dry up or stick to the pipes. It is still best to use washing powder.
4. After starting the machine, a small amount of foam can be seen around the door gasket. Is this because too much liquid detergent was used?
You can first select the required programme and then press “Extra Rinse” (i.e. one more rinse than usual, for a total of 3 rinses), which may help rinse away the foam. Or it may be because a liquid detergent that produces too much foam was used. Generally speaking, European-brand liquid detergents tend to produce less foam, while Japanese-brand liquid detergents tend to produce more foam.
5. When using a front-load washing machine, is water leaking from the door seal or detergent drawer?
If you find water leaking from the door seal, check whether the door is closed tightly and whether any foreign objects are caught on the door’s sealing gasket. At the same time, use a low-foam detergent, place the detergent into the detergent drawer, and do not put in too much at one time.
6. Why does the washing machine shake back and forth during spinning?
The washing machine has transport fixing bolts that secure the inner drum. These must be removed before use. Otherwise, the shock absorption system cannot work, and very strong vibrations will occur.
7. Why can’t I see much water when washing clothes? Is it enough to clean the laundry?
The washing principle of a washing machine relies on tumbling. When there is too much water, it not only wastes water but also prevents effective tumbling. In addition, washing machines produced in Europe are designed with environmental protection and energy saving in mind, so they use less water to achieve the desired cleaning result.
8. Can hot water be poured into the washing machine for washing?
If necessary, hot water can be poured in manually, but the water temperature must not exceed 50 degrees, because excessively high water temperature may damage components such as the washing machine’s outer tub.
9. Why does the washing machine not rotate after I pour water into it myself, switch on the power, and start it?
Fully automatic washing machines have a minimum protective water level. When the water level is too low, the washing machine will not start. Adding more water at this point will allow it to operate. The recommended best method is still to connect the water inlet and outlet hoses properly, so that this type of issue will not occur with fully automatic operation.
10. Why is there vibration during drying?
This can occur if the laundry is not placed evenly or if the machine body is not level. Please note the key points for loading laundry: try to spread out clothes / bedsheets / quilts and distribute them evenly inside the washing drum. You can also try to put clothes of different sizes into the washing drum to help improve washing and spin-drying efficiency, and avoid putting in a single item or too many items.
